The Performers:
The Reisterstown Jazz Ensemble: This
nonprofit musical group was designed by Scott Cater from the start to have a
fat sound in the horn section, with five trumpets, five trombones and five
saxophones. As the band evolved, Carter added a French horn player in the
trombone section and also a flugel horn on some pieces. Since 1992,
this organization has been dedicated to the preservation and education of jazz music for adults.
Powerhouse!: The name says it
all-three turbo-charged ranks of brass and reeds rolling along on the rhythm
section's thundering energy-CCBC's Essex Campus Big Band under the direction
of Ashton Fletcher takes the stage at Hannah More Academy's new outdoor
performance venue.
Powerhouse has graced the stages of Oregon Ridge, Jewish Community Center,
Towson American Legion, Friday Night Swing Dance Clubs, Knights of Columbus,
Sons of Italy, Private Parties and concerts at the CCBC Main Theatre.
Director Ashton Fletcher has performed with artists Bobby Vinton, Frank
Sinatra, Yo-Yo Ma, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles. An educator in the
Baltimore/Washington area, Ashton leads
Powerhouse under the auspices of CCBC Essex Music Department. Ashton now
heads his own music school in White Marsh, Maryland where the Powerhouse
band rehearses and performs. The membership consists of area working
musicians and students of all ages-a generational blending of experience and
fire. When you get 18 musicians together who love what they do, you're
going to love it, too!
Come dance, sing and enjoy America's true, original art form as Powerhouse
brings it all to Reisterstown on Hannah More Academy's new stage. |
