Dress Code

Dancers must be dressed properly for class. This is for dancer safety and allows the instructors to see and assist in proper movement execution. Please keep all dangling and play jewelry at home to avoid breaking and losing items.

  • Hair: Hair for all classes should be pulled off of the dancers face and neck and secured in either a bun or ponytail. If your dancer has short hair, please have them wear a headband or barrettes to keep hair out of their face.

  • Hip-Hop: Dancers should wear comfortable clothing, such as leggings, cotton shorts or sweats with t-shirts. Rubber-soled shoes (tennis shoes) are best for footwear.

  • African Dance: Dancers should wear comfortable clothing such as leggings or sweats and t-shirts. No shoes are to be worn for African Dance.

  • Tap dance shoesFemale Attire for Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern & Pointe Classes: All dancers must wear a solid color leotard and tights to technique classes. Tights can be pink, black, white or tan. A ballet skirt may be worn as long as it is above the knee for movement safety.

  • Male Attire for Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern: All dancers must wear a plain white T-shirt and black shorts or pants. Black or white socks may be worn. A dance belt is required for our male dancers in middle school or older.

  • Ballet Shoes: Please have female dancers wear pink leather or canvas ballet slippers. TheBallet Shoes satin-like slippers are unsafe for dance class due to easily slipping off of the feet and the fit is not proper for class. Male dancers are required to wear black leather or canvas ballet slippers.

  • Tap Shoes: All dancers must wear black tap shoes. The Mary-Jane style tap shoes must have elastic bands for safety and ease of shoe changes for ages 3 to 4th grade. You may purchase the elastic bands from the BSG for $1.50. Our 5th grade and older students are required to have black jazz taps that lace up.

  • Jazz Shoes: All dancers must wear black leather jazz shoes.

  • Modern: Modern classes are taken barefoot. Please make sure your child has footless or convertible tights for class.
